I was working on a Dell 7010 yesterday after acquiring a report card that the workstation was producing a "hum" noise.
Upon arriver, the workstation booted up normally with no issue and I could detect no hum at complete. This unit is new and sporty installed last month. To make up on the safe side, thinking that something my represent touching the fan blade, I opened the pillowcase and blew out any rubble. I then shut up the PC down and rebooted. On this boot I got the message:
"Alert. Previous lover nonstarter. Press F1 to continue."
I shod into Windows and so opened the case. All fans were functional commonly, including the CPU fan.
I rebooted the auto again and entered the BIOS. In the system log, the above subject matter was only message listed.
I am thinking that this might just represent an isolated incident but am looking for for any other suggestions as to what might have caused this.
Even though this unit is still under warranty, they won't even consider replacement it, or any parts unless there is a total hardware failure.

You fire shut down th machine, and whirl the fans by hand to examine if they turn freely. You can likewise clear the log in the BIOS. How old is the Dell? Did you discover some bad caps?

I did all of that except clear the BIOS message as I want to keep it. It's a unexampled Dell 7010 and no on any bad caps.
Iron heel the machine and weight-lift F12, choose Diagnostics and let information technology run and check all hardware.
If anything will fail you should visualise it during the examination.
If everything checks prohibited okay past this is just an isolated case. I know what you poor when Dell doesn't send a replacement non until there is tally hardware failure. Anyway if a hardware failure backside be repeatedly detected using their Nosology software, they leave coiffe a replacement.
Hi Steve,
I'd definitely harmonise with Chip - running the Dell Diagnostics (F12 at the Carry screen, select Diagnostics from boot Menu) will try out the fan for issues. If you get an error, that will make up sufficiency to replace the rooter.
Given that you've already contacted Technical Backing for this issue, we will have it on file that you hold had this error message regarding the fan. Clearing the error message from the Event Logs in the BIOS will stop you from continually having to press F1 on boot and if the error message happens again, I'd say that should be enough to cotton on replaced.
Let me know if IT happens again and I'll get this one taken over give care of for you.
Thanks!
If the internal diagnostics does not pick up an error in the devotee see if the Dell technician volition accept a screen capture of the bios log entry. And don't be surprised by the quick lover unsuccessful person, I have three 7010 small form factors and to each one has had the central processor fan replaced binary times.

Perfect...We have deployed terminated 60 of them.
Hi jdlee25,
Can I scarce double-hold back with you that your Optiplex 7010 systems are now on the job correctly after the previous fan failures? If you are shut up having problems, please don't waffle to obtain in touch with Pine Tree State and I'll be more happy to help.
ProSupport has always been wonderful.
I deployed those systems very shortly after the parvenue small manakin design came out and to my understanding there were problems with the fans that have been rectified in later models. I checkered my records and the last failure was over a year past now, they are coming informed three years old in a few months.
Hi jdlee25,
That's great, I'm glad to hear that your systems have been running without problems for a year but if you practise have any issues, don't waver to get in bear on with me operating theater any of the other Dell green guys here. Thanks for the confirmation!
We got the bios 'rear buff' F1 to continue on 3 Dell 3010's here, Some little s**t had poked a load of block that stopped-up the example fan expiration around. beware lolly sticks, they totally stop the tick tac's going around in the winnow.
